GB Passport

About this guide

GB Passport has explained UK passports in plain English since the 2000s. It is independent: not GOV.UK, not HM Passport Office.

What it is for

UK passport rules are spread over many official pages. This guide puts the common questions in one place: your first passport, renewing, lost or damaged passports, photos, countersignatories, fees, urgent services, name changes, dual nationality and whether your passport is valid for your trip.

How it is checked

Every fact comes from a GOV.UK or HM Passport Office page, and each page links the pages it draws on. Fees and prices sit in a single data table with their source. Where GOV.UK does not state something, for example a standard processing time on the application pages, we say so rather than guess.

Passport rules and prices change. Confirm the fee and the route on the official service before you pay or send documents.

What it is not

We do not process applications, store personal details or sell anything. The checker, calculator and checklists run in your browser and send nothing anywhere. To apply, use the official GOV.UK service.
